Unique Fishing techniques
Wind Knot Guides uses the “mooching” style. Drifting a cut plug herring with the motors off is an awesome way to fish. Alway have a rod in our hand and feel the bite!
We do also troll later in the season if conditions are not great for Mooching
Wind Knot Guide offers Chinook Salmon Charters, Coho Salmon Charter, Pink Salmon Charter, Lingcod Charter, and Flounder Charters. In July, August and November Wind Knot Guides offers Dungeness Crabbing Charter Trips. All trips are subject to WDFW seasons which change often so reach out to the captain with any questions.

The best way to experience Seattle is from the emerald water aboard Wind Knot Guides premium Grady-White boats, fishing the protected water of Puget Sound. It’s a great Seattle Ocean Deep Sea Fishing experience!
Just minutes from downtown Seattle, Shilshole Bay Marina gives quick access to Puget Sound’s top salmon fishing and incredible scenery—a trip you’ll remember for years.
Leaving from the Ballard neighborhood, our Shilshole Bay Marina Charter Fishing Boat is just a short uber from the city center. We fish with light tackle, so every angler gets to feel the bite, targeting Chinook, Coho, and Pink Salmon, as well as Lingcod, Flounder, and even the occasional summer shark. Anglers of all skill levels are welcome, and we take pride in having the cleanest boats on the water. As a family-owned business, we don’t hire seasonal captains, and we provide complimentary jackets and pants for those traveling light.
While most Seattle charters troll for Chinook, we prefer “mooching,” giving each angler their own rod and avoiding turn-taking. It’s a unique, hands-on approach offered by only a few Puget Sound charters. For Coho and Pink Salmon, we do offer trolling. Trips depart from Shilshole Marina in historic Ballard, just five miles from downtown. The protected waters of the Salish Sea mean guests rarely get seasick.
We provide all fishing gear and bait, plus one-day licenses right on the boat, so there’s no need to hunt down a store. Rain gear is available upon request. Book now to fish for Chinook (King Salmon), Coho (Silver Salmon), and Pink Salmon—and maybe even catch a shark!
Light tackle and hands-on fishing in calm waters are sure to put a smile on your face. With decades of experience, your fishing guide knows the Pacific Northwest fishing scene inside and out. Puget Sound fishing also comes with unbeatable views of Seattle. While we don’t actively seek out marine mammals, it’s common to spot seals, sea lions, porpoises, and a variety of marine birds. On lucky days, resident orcas make a magical appearance, and humpback or gray whales sometimes stop by as well.
Safety is our top priority, with Coast Guard-licensed and CPR-trained captains at the helm. We provide approved personal flotation devices, an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon, a VHF radio, and ensure our customers are always within range of cell phone towers. Wind Knot Salmon Guides welcomes all ages and experience levels to create unforgettable summer memories with family on the stunning saltwater ocean of Puget Sound.
